western riding boots?

are there any western boots (horse riding) with steel toes?
would boots such as the 1st ones on this page be good for western riding?
http://www.sheplers.com/womens/roper_wellington/western_boots/boots/
if not, which ones would be better?
I have those & I have this pair, also. I like these better. They are much more comfy!

*** Edit***
Mine are not steal toe. NO good for horses! If they step on the boot & happen to crush the toe & then it will cut your toe off!!

Tips for buying used tack?
Posted by admin
There is a big tack yard sale going on near me this weekend, and I have desperately needed to get some new tack but am quite broke. Our western saddles are in ok condition, but we need to get some new bridles and I'm also interested in getting a set of english/jumper tack as well. Any tips for buying this stuff used?
Also, how can I ensure I get a good fit without my horses around? They are Quarterhorses. Thanks!
My one QH is a very athletic build, she used to be a really good abrrel racer… the other is younger and only broken for basic riding, but I want to train her up for jumper or maybe dressage…
Also, our bridles were stolen so I don't have anything to go by
Look for cracks in the leather. Quality of the leather (No India stuff) make sure hardware on bridles, breast plates have no rust. Standard horse sizes for bridles, breast plates, etc should fit your QHs, same with pads. As for saddles, not sure how your QHs are built so would depend upon that…Wether they are old bull dog types with flat withers or more of the running QH types.
Best of luck and have fun.

What is the difference between seat size in English/Western saddles?
Posted by admin
Is there a difference in seat size in English vs Western saddles? Meaning, if I use a 17" English saddle, would I use a 17" Western saddle? Or are they not the same seat measurements at all?
5'9", 140 + or -, female.
I ride in a 17" english saddle and I have a 16" western saddle. I am 5'8"

should I wear my boots riding on my b/f's motorcycle?
Posted by admin
My new b/f wants me to go for a ride on his motorcycle and told me that I should wear my tall dress boots. I think maybe he just likes seeing me in my boots but maybe there is a reason to wear them. He wants me to wear my tallest high heel boots. I have a pair of awesome over the knee leather boots with about 3" heels. Should I wear those?
hell yes, you'll look great

where can I buy cheap horseback riding boots?
Posted by admin
I need a pair of tall riding boots. Prefferably feild boots. If you know of any really good dress boots for a good price then please tell me that to.
where can I buy them online for like 50 dollars. I know there are rubber ones.
which is better rubber or leather and feild or dress boots.
Thanks!
Leather boots may look a little better for shows etc but they generally are more expensive than rubber riding boots.
Rubber riding boots will work just as well are cheaper and you can trudge through deep water and mud and then just hose them down after and theyre as good as new,
But dont know if yous have much muddy fields or gateways!
Anyway hope this helps!!!!!!

How tall are riding boots supposed to be?
Posted by admin
I just got some Dublin English riding boots from Dover Saddlery and I'm not sure, but I think they are too tall. When I bend my legs, the back of the boots poke into my thigh. The front of the boots comes to about mid knee. Are they too tall?
You dont want them covering your knee. You want the front to be just below your knee and the outside to come just a little higher on your knee. it should not restrict the way you bend your knee. Its normal for the boot to crease and it sometimes pokes your thigh but that is just because they probably are not broken in enough yet.

leather or rubber english riding boots?
Posted by admin
i found a pair of used leather riding boots for $35. and i can get a new pair of rubber riding boots for $35. which is more comfortable. what do you recommend? give me your opinion. =]
are the prices good on them?
I've ridden in both, and the each have advantages and disadvantages.
Rubber is a bit thicker and not as pliable. However, I actually like the extra stiffness for ankle support. Rubber can be hotter in hot weather which may or may not be a factor where you are. Rubber is also easily cared for with a garden hose and maybe some Armor All before a show.
Leather is thinner, so you get more a feel of the horse, but is less supportive. Its not as hot as rubber. And the care is more complicated.
I'd say get whichever pair fits your better. The fit of the boot will be much more important than the material.
