Riding boot fit?
Posted by admin
I just bought new, semi-custom, zip dress boots from Der Dau. I was professionally measured by the owner of a very successful tack store, but I have a couple of concerns about the fit of my boots. I plan on asking my instructor, but I won't see her until the weekend has passed and I can't visit the tack store where I was measured because it's all the way across the US. Well, my boots feel too tall (I read online that they should be an inch too tall when new?) and at the top, too wide. When standing, the top edges of the boots are about a quarter of the way up my knee cap. Even with my heel down, they feel too tall behind the leg.
They lay against my leg, however there is enough slack in them that I can pull the boot away from the leg and fit my hand in there. Small hands, though. Needless to say, this is the first time I've purchased NICE boots and for the price I paid I want to make sure I was sent the right order. Anybody think this sounds like a concern?
Thanks!
the ankles will relax and the back will drop-quickly if they are nice leather.. so i wouldn't really worry about the height..
my friend just got the Der Dau boots (not custom, though) and she rode in a 2 day hunter/jumper clinic for 3 hours each day and said they were FINE! never had any problem riding in them! I'm jealous of you both!
but i don't know about the slack on the sides, i have HUGE calf's.. so that's never been a problem for me!
sorry, and good luck!

thanks to everyone who answered. i actually bought a pair before i asked this question, these are ariat ice tall boots. i was wondering for the people that had this exact style of boot. and the muck boots won't fit in the sturrip irons. they fit in the western sturrips but i like to ride english to. thanks to everyone who answered though. i have considered getting those for barn chores. ( cheap ones.lol.)
I would just get some muck boots too, they are 1/2 the price and are good from 85*F to - temps. Plus you can just hose them off and you don’t have to worry about the leather care. I’d say you need socks on but not extra ones with any boot unless they are too big.
