What size bindings should I use?

I’m riding a 151 burton custom and size 10 boots. But M size bindings say 8-10 boot size and L bindings are for 10+ so wtf? Should I just go with L to be safe?

It depends on the boot. For example, I wear a 32 women’s Lashed which has a very large profile shell. If I were in the same situation, I would go with the large binding b/c my boots shell is a little bigger then a standard Burton boot.

So, I would try to fit your particular boot into a med and a large binding. See which fits better. Hope that helps.

What is the best brand of riding boot for showing on the ‘A’ circuit?

I have a pair of Ariat Heritage II field boots and I don’t like them. I want to go custom but not too expensive. I need something that can fit a shorter person with thin calves. I was thinking about Der-Dau field boots but I want to know what else is out there and what other people are wearing. Help, please.

I have heard very mixed reviews on Der-Dau’s - some people absolutely love them and others have had nothing but problems (mostly the foot wearing out or the leather wearing very thin on the inside of the calf). With that being said, you can go with an off-the-shelf boot from Der Dau (if it fits properly), semi-custom or full custom which I am not sure about options with other boots (something to look into).

If you are looking for customs, I would highly suggest Sergio Grasso - it is up there in price but they are absolutely fantastic boots. I haven’t heard anyone complain of anything on them as of yet.

I would also suggest Konigs as you can get them custom made. I haven’t heard of many complaints on these boots either.

There is also the Ariat Monaco’s which look lovely but I have heard of many people complain about the zippers constantly breaking. I find it’s a real hit and miss with the Ariat products these days.

Personally, I would probably go with the Sergio’s over the Konigs but that is just a personal preference. I haven’t had experience with either boot (I wish I could afford them!) though.

I personally have the Treadstone Tuscany field boot with I LOVE. I originally had the Ariat Challenge (pull ons) but they dropped much more than what I was told and looked stupid. I also had lost weight and my calf is much thinner than it was when I bought the boots. I originally wanted to get Sergio’s and was seriously looking into saving money for them but found the Treadstone Tuscany field boot (I searched it on a local bulletin board and many people have had them and absolutely loved them without any problems) and I happened to need something as quickly as possible. For $400 I really CANNOT complain - no break in time, no blisters and no drop!

You could also try looking at the Mountain Horse Supreme Field Boot although I believe they run quite tall and fairly slim.

Authentic Cowboy Boots?

I’m going hunting in colorado on horseback this fall i want to get some good cowboy boots. not custom ade or anything but some boots a legit cowboy would wear in his day to day riding and cowboy activities also they must look pretty damn awesome with jeans for the rest of my city slicking life in Chicago. Please respond with respected makers styles specific models etc. Thanks

Just find a tack shop or boot shop and go and try some boots on, talk to the clerk and tell them what you are using them for. They will help pick the best boot for your horseback hunt trip.

Tall boots for short people?

I’m a short rider (4′11) with very wide calves (thank you horseback riding ;] ). My legs are about 15" inches tall and 17′"(or less… maybe 16). Does anyone know where I can find either tall or dress boots for riding? I don’t want to spend an arm and a leg on custom made ones.

I had to order my Mountain Horse Boots in short and wide to fit me. They didn’t sell them in the states at the time (about 2 years ago), and I don’t believe they do at this time either. So I ordered from the UK. I have meaty horse-riding calves, so I completely understand your frustration.

These are the one I got: http://www.discountsaddleryshop.co.uk/product_info.php?products_id=295

At least the chart offers measurements to see if it’s something you may want to consider or give you a starting point for more research. I spent a fraction of what I would’ve going custom. My boots are awesome - completely love them and are holding up beautifully. Totally worth the extra effort it took to find them. Mt. Horse in the UK may have more style options now since it has been two years.

i want to get a new pair of feild boots…?

I want a new pair of feild boots for horse back riding but my calves are too skinny,, they are 11 in. in curcumference but the size to fit my shoe size and height is 13 in. at the smallest and i dont want to spent $1000 more than i need to to get custom made… what excersices can i do to strengthen my calf musscels?? i have done alot of toe raises but have not seen much improvement… thank you in advance

If you’ve tried raises and stair step exersises, my next suggestion would be running or jogging to build up muscles. Stair Step exersises involve hanging your heels off the edge of a stair, and using your calves to lift up. (see link)

I’d also suggest looking into brands of boots that come in a slim calf…I have the same problem as you, and the only field boots that fit are slim calves - Ariat is worth the money for a great fit. If you find a pair that fits almost exactly the way you want, you could take them to a boot maker to see if they could tailor them to fit your calves better.

Best of luck!

What’s the adverage cost of a custom-made Antares saddle?

I’m in the need for a new saddle, desperately. I’ve heard very good things about this brand. Anyone know what they usually run for?

All their stuff is in euros (boots, girths, etc) so I have no idea how much a saddle would cost from them.

Also if anyone owns or has ridden in one, let me know what you think about their saddles!

Thanks.

the advantage cost is $100.

Can anyone recommend me a good site where I can buy good equestrian boots?

I need a good pair of tall field boots that can withstand moist and hot weather well, without the maintenance. However, they need to be really hardy because I go riding regularly. I have size 8 feet, but I’m only 5′ tall. So sometimes when I buy new tall boots, the boots go past my calves and it’s really difficult to break them in at first. And sometimes when they shrink, they kind of bundle up at the ankles, which is really inconvenient. I’m not going to get custom boots either cause they’re too expensive. Anyone know a good brand or website that sells good boots? Please leave the link, thanks.

I have a pair of Cavalier field boots that I can sell you. They are a 7 1/2 (run big) wide calf field boot but they are only 15 1/2 inches tall (I’m short too). $75.00 and they are yours. You can find them on Charleston SC Craigslist under farm/garden. They are brand spankin new still in the box, I just don’t show anymore.

How long does it take to break in new leather field boots?

Well, I have been wearing them at home and at the barn every day. I just bought them a week ago, and I started wearing them yesterday. I rode in them yesterday and today, and luckily I only have sores on the back side of my knee. How long will it take me to break them in? I have a show on March 26-29. They are Valentini Semi-Custom Leather Field Boots.

i break in my boots by wearing them around the house and barn, obviously, but also at night rubberband them. i know this sounds weird, but it works: ok, fold the boot at the ankle, like it would be if you were riding and your heels were down, toes up. then put a bunch of rubberbands to hold the toe close to the boot and keep it folded like that. you might have to do it a couple times, but it will help get the ankle broken in for when you ride. also, you can put pre-wrap (this stuff http://www.soccerpro.com/images/92075l_prewrap.jpg )

around your knee so that you don’t get sores on the back.

good luck!
