Equestrian English Horse Boots?
Posted by admin
Hi, I am an english riding and I was looking for some recommendations on horse boots. I am looking for an affordable pair of tall boots that I can use for my lessons and shows that will last a long time. Help?
i use the ariat heritage 2 zip field boots. my first pair held up for about 3 years. i was able to use them for lessons (i take 1 a week, sometimes ride twice) and also for showing. they’re also comfortable to walk around in if i’m just at the barn. they are about $260 dollars, but they were very worth it for me, and if you have a good place to take your boots should they not fit like they used to, they handle alterations very well. and the only reason i had to sell mine were because my calf got too big for them. the only thing is, ariat doesn’t have very large sizes. custom boots get into the $600’s but if you’re a size they carry, ariat’s a very good brand to buy.

How do you find what size?

of English riding tall boot, breeches or Hunt coat you are without being able to try them on because you would be buying over the internet? Do most tact apparel shops accept refunds too, if not which ones do accept refunds online??
Thanks
Try them on before buying them! They are not cheap! You want your moneys worth right???

What are some good boots for riding?
Posted by admin
My rubber tall boots are great for everything except riding… it’s practically impossible to keep my heels down because the rubber is so stiff!!
does anyone know of a great boot for english riding that is flexible at the ankle so that i can keep my heels down without the rubber folding and digging into the top of my foot!? also, is there a good website or something where you can find good used boots for really cheap? should i look at field boots or paddock boots and half chaps??
i live in the US.
i can’t really afford Ariat boots, but I’ve been looking at these. do they look like good quality for the price, or are these cheap, crappy boots that i should stay away from?

thanks
Ariat paddock boots are great. I’ve had the same pair for almost five years and they still look good.
I personally love my devon-aire field boots. I ride in them all the time and they wear well. It took a week to break them in, but you could probably speed the process up if you used mink oil on them for a few days.
ETA:
Hmm. I’ve never heardof that brand. horsetackreview.com ,they may have some info on them. Check that out first- in the long run, it may be best to go with something a little more expensive but higher quality.

Question about your opinion on english riding apparel?
Posted by admin
So Ive been riding for awile, and so far the best thing that has worked for me for riding is full chaps. My zipper busted, so now im using half chaps. And tall boots arnt comfortable really to ride in because its hard to move your ankles. So my question is from your experience, what works the best for riding for you? Thanks!
Thanks guys.. hey one other question.. if you wear half chaps or full chaps do you wear paddock boots or tennis shoes or what?
I have been riding in full chaps since 1970. I hate riding in half chaps. I wear my paddock boots always.
I have a very expensive pair of tall boots that I only use for showing, and I ride in them 2 days before a show to get the feel.
If there is a place near you that does shoe repair they can probably replace your zipper.

What is a good brand of English riding tall boot that isn’t overly expensive!!??
P.S. This is the second time I have asked this question with no luck the first time…
Thanks a ton if you can help or answer in any way!
I would need something like an 8.5 Slim and its
hard to find both for good prices
I have already checked Ebay and they don’t have
any that are the size/type I’m looking for
i wear aigle start boots.
there really good.
cos they dont get sticky and there heaps comfortable.
and pretty cheap.
dont get dublin.
there cheaper but i dont like their talll boots.
i just dont like the fit.
specially the universal tall boot.
although i do have strange shaped legs.
so it might just be me, not the boot.
i dont know.
ask the bootsellers or something.
or some other riders who have already found the bestboot.

Good, affordable winter riding boots?
Posted by admin
I’m looking around online for a pair of winter riding boots. where i live it rarely snows, and the average temperature is in the high 30s or low 40s, but it’s still really cold and sometimes my toes freeze with my regular riding boots. i often try to wear super thick wool socks, but i only have a few pairs of them and then my boots feel tight and i just think it would be nice to have some winter boots.
i ride english, but i don’t need tall boots (i’ve seen winter tall boots, and they’re really expensive, so i’m looking for around $30 or less), and it would be preferable if my half chaps can fit over them.
thanks! i appreciate it!
Back in the day when I was an exercise rider, my one boss had a great trick for keeping the toes warm on the coldest day. Buy a large pair of Norwegian rag socks (ski shop) and pull them over your regular riding boots, then get a pair of shoe rubbers and put them over the rag socks. It really does a good job. Only thing is, you may have you get bigger irons.

are paddock boots good for both western and english?
Posted by admin
i am mostly a western rider but i am learning english. i was wondering if paddock boots are okay to show in english. i showed w/ them in western last year and they were fine, but i dont know if they will be okay to wear for english riding or do i need to buy the tall boots too? also, i would like someone’s advice if i should buy new boots on ebay for cheaper or if i should pay more but make sure tht the boot fits properly at a local store. Thanks for the help.
how old are you? paddock boots and garters are ok for kids, but tall boots are required for teens and adults. If you’re just doing a schooling show at your barn, you can probably get away with just paddock boots (or maybe paddock boots and half chaps), but if you’re doing anything else from local shows to bigger shows, you’ll need tall boots.
You should absolutely positively buy your boots from the store… UNLESS you go to the store and try some on so you know your size and then you can buy online. I bought my first pair of tall boots online… I got the wide ones for my big calfs and they had a gusset so I figured they would fit but they didn’t… they wouldn’t come all the way up so they were very bunched up around my ankles… I ended up having to buy new ones at a store a few months later. You also need to see how tall you need them to be… if you do buy online, remember that new boots stretch out and drop a little bit… don’t get boots that are barely tall enough or else they will drop and end up being too short.

different riding boots?
Posted by admin
What is the difference between different English riding boots? I want the shorter ones as I already have tall boots but there are so many name; Jodpurs, paddock boots, Dansko. What do these all mean?
If it makes any difference I will be using them for jumping and huntseat.
Tall boots- wear breeches and knee high socks under. Some people only use these for shows, but I use mine everyday. There are different types, dress boots can be used in dressage and jumpers. Hunters wear Field boots. Jumpers can also wear them. Field boots have laces, dress boots do not.
Paddock Boots- I think these are the boots you are talking about that you want. they are short, and come just above the ankle. You can’t, well shouldn’t wear them in a show with chaps and jeans. If you show in short stirrup or the pony divisions, etc. you should wear garters and jodphurs. Jodphurs are pants( not boots)and go over the boot and have an elastic thing on the end.
Dansko is a brand of shoe. Like Ariat, they make a variety of shoes. The most popular are their clogs. They are great barn shoes, and are also made for lots of walking ( though my feet will still ache).
