Tips for buying used tack?

There is a big tack yard sale going on near me this weekend, and I have desperately needed to get some new tack but am quite broke. Our western saddles are in ok condition, but we need to get some new bridles and I'm also interested in getting a set of english/jumper tack as well. Any tips for buying this stuff used?

Also, how can I ensure I get a good fit without my horses around? They are Quarterhorses. Thanks!
My one QH is a very athletic build, she used to be a really good abrrel racer… the other is younger and only broken for basic riding, but I want to train her up for jumper or maybe dressage…

Also, our bridles were stolen so I don't have anything to go by :(
Look for cracks in the leather. Quality of the leather (No India stuff) make sure hardware on bridles, breast plates have no rust. Standard horse sizes for bridles, breast plates, etc should fit your QHs, same with pads. As for saddles, not sure how your QHs are built so would depend upon that…Wether they are old bull dog types with flat withers or more of the running QH types.

Best of luck and have fun.
